  • Year 9 spent the day in London visiting the Science and Natural History Museums to enhance their appreciation of scientific discovery and the history of science and to get some sense of the enormity of animals we discuss in lessons. Students has to use the London Underground to get to the museums and really enjoyed the buzz of London. All students were wonderfully behaved, enjoyed their day and learnt lots of new science.
  • There was one Science AG&T lecture hosted by Dr Douglas regarding the Chemistry of Light. The lecture theatre was filled to capacity with over 150 people. We spent most of the lecture in darkness with Dr Douglas showing us fluorescent reactions and products but also giving us an insight in to how nature uses light and how we are trying to use light to enhance technology further. The lecture was an hour and a half but the time just flew by as we had lots of explosion, pretty lights and a few good laughs. Students were brilliant and had a fantastic time.

  • We have started a High Speed Photography Film Club. We had one session last term where students filmed the reaction of iron and magnesium burning in a flame. They also filmed striking a match and lighting the Bunsen burner. Students have yet to put the movie together but that is planned for this term along with filming the Thermit reaction.
