Sport & Science day at The University of Gloucestershire

On Tuesday 14th June Mr Lloyd, Miss Wishart and Mr Doyle took 11 students to the University of Gloucestershire for a science and sport day. The day was designed to show how science can be used to enhance an athletes’ performance by analysing their movements or designing clothing or equipment to bolster performance. Students use electronic timing gates to measure shuttle runs and gain accurate, reliable data, use force plates to detect possible injuries and enhance lift off and biometrics to monitor movement. The day also highlighted possible careers relating to sport science and gave students a taste for what university life is like by touring the campus. Our students were brilliant and engaged in all activities and learnt a lot about how science can improve sport performance. We would like to thank the team at Gloucestershire University for hosting the day and giving up their time to develop our understanding of sport science. You can view a video of what we got up to on You Tube-just search for Springfield School Science and Sport Day.
