Chinese Banners

Students at Springfields School are proud to show off their latest art installation; a series of banners inspired by a gift from their partner school in China.

The six week project, funded by the Specialist School and Academies Trust was run in conjunction with Corsham School’s outreach artist, Mazy Bartlett and her colleague, costume designer Emma Williams.

The colourful banners are based on a Chinese papercut and each depicts a different animal significant in Chinese culture.

Trystan Williams, Head of Springfields said “We are always looking at innovative ways to display art around the school. We felt it important that the banners be erected outside of the main school building for all to see. The eight students involved in making the banners can be really proud of their achievement.”

Rachel Makepeace, Head of Art said “Through the medium of art we can build on our strong partnership with Yanbu Vocational School. Later in the year myself, Mr Williams and other staff members will be travelling to our partner school in China where we will bring elements of British culture to them. We will be delivering various workshops including British Artists, British History and even a Shakespearian play, which students will perform at the end of our visit.”
